Quest rules need to be revised for 2025 | Sat Mar 29 10:36:44 2025 MST |
| I've been thinking ever since I got back to playing about the current quest rules IoM has. More and more I think its outdated and nowdays found nowhere else in modern games. The quest rules documentation suggest that quests are here mainly for entertainment but in reality some of them are gatekeepers to some of the most desired items in the game.
I've been pondering different solutions to this problem. Some quests are as the rules mention purely there for our entertainment and offer little in regards of real power in game.
The part I really needs to be considered is the secrecy. A system impossible to enforce as players nowdays(and probably since the beginning) have numerous ways to share information outside of the game itself.
So should we have no rules? I dont know atm, maybe? Does the strict rules make the game better?
A change in the rules might make the community more open to helping one another and new players - new quests could be made that specficaly wants the community to help each other in figuring them out.
Havent said anything about the shifter quests, as they would require an essay of their own.
How does the rest of you feel? |

| I have been thinking for a while now and this is what i realized. (Also as op im also excluding SS form quests from this discussion. How they should be considered is a whole different can that just complicates things atleast at this stage.)
1. I race and compete in slot-racing and we would never put a rule into effect that is practically unenforceable. Its bad since it undermines all other rules.
2. There is a lot of work put into quests and to spoil that for someone who wants to solve them without asking for any hints at all is also bad.
3. Party Quests actually require communication to at the very least a limited degree.
So a solution I would favor would be to create a "quest" channel that is optin.
Adjust the rules so they lean into the more modern take of "don't spoil quests for someone with info they haven't asked for".
Joining that optin channel should be considered as agreeing that you don't care about being spoiled.
This would mean tells and this new channel would be free game (or maybe only if there was a question asked).
Party Say should also be okay IF it was stated (so that all potentially involved players can choose to leave or never join) that there will be quest info discussed in that Party). |
